Control the Fire

High ambition and high energy are among the most powerful forces a human being can possess.

But without control they can become destructive.

When you are deeply invested in something, when you have sacrificed, worked and poured everything you have into making it happen, and then things don't go your way, that is when your judgment is at its most vulnerable.

The higher the ambition, the more intense the emotional reaction when reality doesn't comply.

And that is precisely when most mistakes are made.

Not because the desire behind them is wrong, but because emotion distorts perspective.

A good rule of thumb is this:

Whenever you feel emotional about a decision or a circumstance, do not act.

Go for a walk. Take fresh air. Let it sit for a few days.

If possible seek counsel from someone more experienced than you.

And only then, from a place of clarity and stillness, act.

Your ambition is not the problem. Your energy is not the problem. They are your greatest assets.

But even the most powerful fuel needs structure in order to stay in control.
