Happy Before Big Achievements

It takes a long time to achieve a large goal or to live the exact life you have imagined for yourself.

It takes time because it requires competence.

So how do you remain happy on the road to get there?

Two things.

The first is internal.

Let yourself feel excited and hopeful towards achieving the goal.

You are probably happiest when you are chasing something you want rather than actually getting it.

Once you get it you may feel happy for a few days, but without a new goal or vision to strive towards you will likely feel less fulfilled than you expected.

So enjoy the chase.

Feel the excitement.

Let the pursuit itself be a source of happiness.

The second is external.

Celebrate the small wins along the way.

Every day.

Every week.

Every month.

Most people are too hard on themselves, and subconsciously believe that the small wins are not worth celebrating. But these small achievements are worth acknowledging becuase they are the stepping-stones towards the big goal.

Feel hopeful and excited.

And clebrate the small wins.

Do these for the rest of your life and you will always be growing and you will always feel happy.
