Pedestalizing

Imagine that the CEO of a big car company is coming in for a meeting next week.

Most people would immediately think "Oh wow, the CEO!"

But what does the car company actually do?

They make cars.

The largest construction company in your country?

They build buildings.

None of these things are revolutionary.

None of these things require you to be in complete awe.

This is not about being dismissive or arrogant towards successful people.

Hard work deserves respect and you ought to always treat people with courtesy, especially if you are lower down than them.

But pedestalizing someone because of their title or the size of their company creates an unnecessary imbalance.

See people for who they are.

Human beings doing a job very well.

But they aren't Gods.

Courtesy, respect and a very relaxed conversation.
