Persistence And Cookies
Being steadfast on what you want creates never-ending power.
When you decide on what you want and you refuse to give up regardless of what happens, something interesting occurs.
You don't get weaker over time.
You get stronger.
Most people think the longer the road, the harder it must be.
Most people fear the process of getting what one wants, but they shouldn't.
Let's talk about something that's more relatable.
Let's say you love cookies.
And let's say you have decided to stop eating cookies completely.
You are doing well. You actually feel good about yourself.
And then you walk into the kitchen and there it is, sitting on the counter.
Your desire for it is maybe a six out of ten.
You think "It's only been a few days since I made my promise to stop. I won't eat it. It's just a cookie."
You walk away feeling good about yourself.
But then you come back an hour later and it's still there. Now your desire for it is a seven.
You start thinking about how it tastes. The texture. How satisfying it would be. The taste of chocolate.
But you walk away again.
A family member walks past you and says "oh those cookies were incredible by the way. I left one for you if you didn't know"
Now your desire for the cookie is an eight.
Now you're annoyed. Maybe even frustrated.
But here's what's actually happening.
Your body is mobilizing.
You are creating resistance, determination, anger, stubbornness.
Every time you say no, you are building something inside yourself without even realizing it.
Now it's been several days since you haven't eating a cookie, and now the desire for it is a nine.
You want it more than anything.
And you still don't eat it.
That is where the power lives.
Your body continues to create energy in order for you to resist giving up.
And it compounds.
It works exactly the same way with your goals.
Before people experience any real success they fear the five or ten years it might take to get there.
They think:
"What if it doesn't work out? What if I waste years of my life? Do I really have what it takes to work 5-10 years for this?"
And that fear makes them quit before they have allowed obsession to take over.
As time passes and you keep refusing to give in, your desire doesn't stay the same.
It grows.
It becomes an obsession.
And obsession is the most powerful state a human being can operate from.
